The Talented 10th

Rochester, NY

Over six months, 21 young men went from never having used AI to directing it to tell their own stories, build their own brands and picture their own careers.

A room full of young men and adults seated for a Talented 10th session

By the numbers

  • 21 young men, ages 14 to 18
  • 18 of 21 (86%) attended at least six of seven sessions
  • About 80% had never used AI tools before
  • Over 90% had no experience with prompting or ethical AI practices
  • 14 reported greater confidence writing AI prompts
  • 10 independently produced a revised AI-assisted image or story

“People reached” is our projected community reach: the midpoint of our estimate of everyone the program touched beyond the people in the room, such as families, classmates, colleagues and neighbors.

Many of these young men came in with little or no exposure to AI tools or a structured creative process. This six-month program changed that through AI literacy, creative storytelling and digital skill-building.

They learned to use AI as a tool for their ideas: generating ideas, creating visual content, building narratives and exploring career paths. Designing a personal signature and logo made the work unmistakably theirs.

It made me feel good! It made me feel like I got something done. It made me feel like I dove into my brain a little bit. I dug something out and got it done. I worked for it.
