School 33 Dads and Donuts
School 33, Rochester, NY
We planned for 100 to 120 people. 127 dads and role models showed up, each with at least one child, to create together.

By the numbers
- 127 adults attended, each bringing at least one child
- 65 families completed character and story activities
- 34 people told us it helped them learn something new about a family member's ideas or values
- 15 families kept creating with our activities afterward
“People reached” is our projected community reach: the midpoint of our estimate of everyone the program touched beyond the people in the room, such as families, classmates, colleagues and neighbors.
Dads and other male role models joined their kids for Workshop 1.0: creating characters, developing stories and adding them to one collective universe.
Activities were designed for shared imagination and collaborative decision-making, so adults and kids could express ideas together. Creating side by side opened up conversations that don't always happen at home.
- Families learned something new about each other's ideas and values
- Adults and kids saw each other's creative abilities in a new light
- Pride in watching one another create unique ideas and stories
- Stronger connections between youth and male role models

One shared universe
Every family's story joined a collective world.
The activity gave families a playful way to connect and create together. It's one of the biggest groups we've had for an event like this and we would love to do it again. The families were so engaged!Adriane, School 33 program director
