The Digital Storytelling Lab was designed to make creativity accessible.
Participants don’t need to know how to draw, write a comic, or use creative technology. Our facilitators guide each creator step-by-step while giving them room to express themselves in the ways that work best for them.

In our Workshops, no previous creative experience is necessary.
The Digital Storytelling Lab is an all-ages program designed for people with different abilities, interests, learning styles, and ways of communicating.
We welcome Neurodivergent creators, people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and anyone interested in exploring storytelling and creativity.
Participants under age 18: A parent, guardian, or responsible adult/support person must accompany the participant during Zoom sessions.
From an Idea to Something You Can Hold.
Every creator finishes the experience with:
Their own character + original story + completed digital comic + professionally printed copies
And they’ll have spent 12 weeks creating, experimenting, communicating, and sharing their ideas along the way.
Fall Digital Storytelling Lab

✅ Deposit: $100 to Reserve a Spot
✅ Full Tuition: $1,500 (minus deposit)
The $100 deposit holds the participant’s spot while funding arrangements are being completed.

Cooley Comics works with participants using OPWDD self-directed funding. When applicable, our team can coordinate with the participant’s Fiscal Intermediary to establish approval and direct billing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to know how to draw or write to join?
No. Our workshops are designed so that anyone can create using digital tools. While you can certainly bring your own drawing and writing skills, we first teach participants how to use our accessible digital tools to design characters and tell stories.
Do I need experience with technology or AI?
No. Our team provides guided support throughout the program. You will be asked to use some AI and digital tools, so, please be sure you come with an open mind and prepared to use some innovative technologies.
Does a parent or support person need to attend?
Participants under 18 must be accompanied during Zoom sessions by a parent, guardian, or responsible adult/support person.
Do you work with people with special needs?
Absolutely. About 50% of our staff and participants are people who are of the special needs community, Neurodivergent, and/or on the Autism spectrum. Our experiences are fully accessible for all.
Is this only for people with disabilities?
No. The program is open to all ages and is designed to support many different ways of learning, communicating, and creating.
Can OPWDD funding be used?
Yes, when applicable and approved through the participant’s plan and Fiscal Intermediary. Our team can help coordinate the process.
What will I receive?
Participants finish with an original character and story, a completed digital comic book, and professionally printed copies of their comic.
