General Information
What is the AI Comic Labs Workshop?
The AI Comic Labs Workshop empowers students to create their own comics, focusing on storytelling, character development, and the integration of AI technology. We engage youth throughout Rochester, NY, fostering creativity and collaboration.
Who is eligible to participate?
This program is open to all students in grades 5-12.

Program Structure
What does the program entail?
The workshop typically consists of at least 2-3 sessions, completed in-school and at the ImagineYOU digital media lab, at the Rochester Central Library.
The program includes:
- Pre-Work at School: Collaborate with librarians and teachers, complete creator forms for story development, character creation, and editing.
- Library Sessions with Cooley Comics: Sessions last 3-4 hours, including a 30-minute lunch. Students learn AI image generation and finalize their character images.
- Behind-the-Scenes Work: Cooley Comics manages all graphic design, layout, printing, binding, and logistics.
What is the cost of the program?
The program only costs $200 per student, which supports operational costs, design, and logistics.
Funding or Not, We Will Find a Way!
We will work with anyone, whether you have a budget and funding or not. If you need support raising funds or would like to inquire about our scholarship waiting list (funded by Friends & Foundation of the Rochester Public Library) please let us know in the form and we can work with you to navigate fundraising.
Frequently Asked Organizer Questions
How do we schedule workshop dates and times?
You can choose the dates and times for the workshops, and our program manager will collaborate with your school representatives to arrange everything promptly.
What is the maximum number of students that can participate?
The maximum number of participants is 10 students per session.
Are there limits on the number of sessions we can conduct?
If you cover the seat cost or secure a specific grant for your school, there is no limit to the number of sessions you can schedule. However, scholarship programs are limited to one cohort due to high demand.
What technology do students need to participate?
We provide all necessary technology during the library sessions. Students will need internet access and an email account for pre-work via Google Forms. Exceptions can be made for hard copies upon request.
What support is available for students during the workshop?
We ensure at least two facilitators are present to support students. Teachers should inform us of specific needs for their students, and we encourage schools to provide appropriate chaperones.
Can teachers participate in the workshop?
Yes, teachers can receive discounts for any prepaid costs.
