What is the AI Comic Labs Workshop?

The AI Comic Labs Workshop empowers students to create their own comics, focusing on storytelling, character development, and the integration of AI technology. We engage youth throughout Rochester, NY, fostering creativity and collaboration.

Who is eligible to participate?

This program is open to all students in grades 5-12.

Program Structure

What does the program entail?
The workshop typically consists of at least 2-3 sessions, completed in-school and at the ImagineYOU digital media lab, at the Rochester Central Library.

The program includes:

  • Pre-Work at School: Collaborate with librarians and teachers, complete creator forms for story development, character creation, and editing.
  • Library Sessions with Cooley Comics: Sessions last 3-4 hours, including a 30-minute lunch. Students learn AI image generation and finalize their character images.
  • Behind-the-Scenes Work: Cooley Comics manages all graphic design, layout, printing, binding, and logistics.

What is the cost of the program?

The program only costs $200 per student, which supports operational costs, design, and logistics.

How will my financial support be used?
Your financial support will directly sponsor young people to participate in the AI Comic Labs.

What specific expenses does my donation cover?
Contributions support operational needs, including space, computers, facilitators, graphic design, printing, project management, and AI integration fees. A full breakdown of expenses can be provided upon request.

What contribution levels are available?
You can choose any contribution level, we ask that you setup a call to talk with Chris Cooley (CEO of Cooley Comics) before making a donation.

Will I be recognized for my contribution?
Donors can request recognition upon request and can also make contributions in memory of someone.

Can I designate my donation for a specific purpose?
If you would like to donate for a specific purpose within the program, please contact us directly.

Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes, your donation is tax-deductible through our partnership with the FFRPL.

Are there opportunities for in-kind donations?
Please contact us for in-kind donation opportunities, particularly for technology such as laptops and tablets.

We aim to scale our capacity to support the creation of 1,000 comic books annually in Rochester by 2026, along with developing after-school programs for students who excel in our workshops.

We provide ongoing communication with donors upon request, and we collect data and report in collaboration with our non-profit partners.
